After living with the Essex at Hampton for a few months, I would recommend staying away from this apartment complex. The management company does not care about their residents. When I first wanted to move in, they only let me see the model and wanted me to pay my first month's rent prior to even viewing the actual apartment I'd be residing in. I was finally able to push to view the actual apartment 2 days before my move-in date and a lot of the apartment did not even look like the model, so I ended up cancelling and waiting for an apartment that would look like the model, but they didn't seem to care how much stress it caused me to push my move-in date out another month or so.

To add to the stress, within the summer, after removing weeds from the back area that were left by the residents before me, I had to call to get the lawn mowing service to finally start mowing the lawn in my back area, but they usually skip it still. They also mention spraying for insects routinely, but never in my life, have I seen so many millipedes, ear wigs, spiders (small and large), even random honey bees that will somehow find a way to come through my bathroom vent.

The tipping point for me and why I decided to write this review is that despite them treating their own residents so poorly, I was charged a $75 late fee for forgetting to pay a lock out fee, which they claim they are unable to waive (I locked myself out of my apartment and their maintenance personnel had to drive over with a premade key of theirs to open it up, which costs a whopping $50, even though there is no locksmith service involved).

This incident only happened about a month ago and the reason I forgot to pay this was due to the fact that I get my rent auto-payed, so I don't always look at the rent payment website. It absolutely baffles me that they do not even have the human decency to remove a late fee when I am only a few days late, especially during our current economic situation.
